Back pain is a common condition. It occurs when too much pressure builds up in your spine or an injury is sustained to your back.

Back pain can vary from person to person and might be either acute or chronic. Acute back pain lasts for less than three months whereas chronic back pain can last for more than three months.

Common causes of back pain include lifting heavy objects, sitting incorrectly, and stretching the spine in an awkward position.

However, back pain may also be the sign of a more serious condition such as a more benign injury like muscle strains.

Scoliosis 

Scoliosis is a condition where the spine curves to the side in either a convex or concave pattern. The most common type of scoliosis is known as "idiopathic scoliosis". This form of scoliosis occurs during puberty, and can be caused by hormonal changes due to growth.

Signs and symptoms of scoliosis include back pain, fatigue and loss of balance, among others. Doctors may recommend various treatments for an individual with this condition, such as wearing a brace or undergoing surgery. In some cases, doctors might not recommend any treatment for someone with mild scoliosis.

Herniated disc

The spinal cord is a bundle of nerves that carry messages from the brain to the body, and vice versa. The column of bones (vertebrae) connects the spinal cord to the bones in the upper part of your body. A herniated disc is when some of this bundle bulges or ruptures through a weak area in your vertebrae.

A herniated disc may occur for many reasons, including:

  • too much pressure on one side of your back

  • an injury to your back, such as a car accident

  • an infection in your spine.

To prevent back pain, it is important to maintain healthy habits for back pain like eating right, getting enough sleep, and maintaining good posture.
